STAVERTON PARK 2021

Following all the restrictions, lock downs, jabs, forced hibernation, limited golf and a general shit year, GHOFAT 2021 became a COVID antidote for the sixteen old farts who turned out at Staverton Park for our 21st birthday celebrations, and as the weather was kind to us, we all sallied forth to play the golf game of a lifetime, for some (most) this was an ambition that proved too difficult to achieve!

Nevertheless the two days golf were completed without any major situations developing to mar what promised to be a very enjoyable away day and night.

We were joined by two guests this year, Ray Jolly bringing his other friend Trevor Norris, and David Toule, the well known and revered ex-captain of Belton Woods and the rest of the world. They were to battle it out for the only guest prizes on offer as first year guests are unable to carry off any of the main trophies.

The general consensus was that the course was in pretty good condition considering the problems of Covid impacting on available green staff. The Hotel was up to the usual good standard expected from De Vere, although the dinner on Tuesday evening could have been better, but there were no real issues or complaints.

It must be recorded that Bob was GHOFAT winner in 2019, and as such is the only player to have two consecutive victories and his name on the TROPHY CAP and the TROPHY (separated only by COVID) for two years running!

Jay will no doubt be absolutely delighted when Bob returns home with the trophy to enable her to put it back in pride of place...the shed!

On Wednesday the after-match soup, sandwiches and chips went down well, and as some of the presentations were made at dinner on Tuesday, the prize giving was not as time consuming as previous years.

It was suggested that possible venues for GHOFAT 2022 should be emailed to me, bearing in mind that we do need a hotel on site with enough rooms to accommodate up to 20 players.

Finally, many thanks to Grandad’s little helpers !

Phil Turrell………………...Computing the final scores

Tony Slipper………………Presenting the NTP and long drive

Bob Blake………………...Amusing Bernaduetz presentations

Colin Thornton……………….Sorting out the H/C and cards

Here’s to 2022 GHOFAT Watch this space!

Many thanks to all for making 2021 GHOFAT a great couple of days fun.

That’s all folks
